• Osteopathy is hands-on manual therapy that looks at your whole body, not just where it hurts. Your osteopathic manual practitioner assesses how you move, how your joints and muscles work together, and what might actually be driving your pain or discomfort. From there, touch-based techniques are used to help restore function and ease. The goal is always to understand why something is happening, not just treat the symptom.

  • Osteopathic manual practice is not currently a regulated profession in Ontario, which means it is worth doing a little homework before you book with anyone. Look for practitioners who completed a recognized training program and hold membership with a professional association. Those are the kinds of things I would encourage you to ask about before booking with any practitioner, including me.

  • Most extended health plans include osteopathic manual therapy, and a lot of people do not realize it until they actually check. Coverage varies by plan, so the easiest thing to do is log into your benefits portal or give your provider a quick call before your first visit. I provide a receipt after every session so submitting is simple.

  • Yes. You will get an official receipt after every visit with everything you need to submit to your benefits provider.

  • Comfortable, loose clothing you can move in. Shorts and a t-shirt are perfect. Your session involves some movement and positioning, so you want to be able to move freely. The treatment room is private.

  • Your first visit is about getting the full picture. We will talk through what has been going on, how long you have been dealing with it, what makes it better or worse, and what you are hoping to get out of treatment. From there we move into a physical assessment and in most cases hands-on treatment in the same session. You will leave knowing what I found and what the plan looks like going forward.

  • Nope! You can book directly without a referral. If your specific benefits plan requires a physician referral for reimbursement, that is worth checking in advance, but it is not required to book or be seen.
